Healthy Eating for young children, is it worth the expense?

Updated: Jun 7

The more and more we learn about food and its impact on every part of your health the more we need to propel ourselves in to doing something about it.. well, that is easy to say, but expensive to do! But with compelling evidence to suggest that it can impact your children well into the future, perhaps we actually should be really careful about what goes in our children's mouths.

  • Physical Growth and Development:

A balanced diet provides the energy and nutrients needed for healthy growth, including muscle development, bone health, and overall physical development.

  • Cognitive Function:

Nutrients like iron and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for brain development and cognitive function, impacting learning and memory.

  • Immune System:

Healthy eating helps boost the immune system, making children less susceptible to infections and illnesses.

  • Healthy Weight Management:

Encouraging healthy eating habits can help children maintain a healthy weight, reducing the risk of obesity and related health problems.

  • Future Health:

Establishing healthy eating habits early on can reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers in later life.

  • Reduced Risk of Nutrient Deficiencies:

A balanced diet ensures children get all the necessary vitamins and minerals, reducing the risk of deficiencies that can negatively impact health and development.

  • Energy Levels and Alertness:

Healthy foods provide sustained energy, helping children focus better in school and have more energy for activities.

  • Dental Health:

Limiting sugary foods and drinks helps prevent tooth decay and maintains good dental health. Reserach shows that 23.7% of 5-year-olds in England experienced obvious dentinal decay.

  • Mental Health:

Poor nutrition can affect mood, behavior, and concentration, so healthy eating is important for overall mental well-being.

  • Building Healthy Habits:

Encouraging healthy eating from a young age can help establish positive eating habits that last a lifetime.
